Kumihimo is an ancient technique now also being practiced on a contemporary version of the traditional kumihimo braiding disk. The braiding process can produce a wide variety of cords suitable for projects as diverse as necklaces to custom tie backs for curtains. Once the set up and beginning "rounds" are established, the braiding is rhythmical and easy to follow. When beads are added to the cord as it is fabricated, the finished object closely resembles bead crochet.
Students Will Learn: how to set up a kumihimo disk in preparation for braiding an 18" cord necklace. The braiding process will be demonstrated and practiced. Findings for finishing the cord will be supplied and their installation will be demonstrated. Adding beads to braided cords will also be demonstrated and samples of beaded cords will be available for examination. Most students should be able to finish their projects in class.
