Felting : Wet Felting

Class ID: 1177 - Felt Flowers : Wet Felting with Mixed Media Inclusions Teacher: Tammy Deck Class Level: Beginner (no experience) Class Type: Half Day Class Date: Friday August 1st Class Time: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Class Location: 1 By popular request... join us in this class to make the sophisticated felt flower that is a collage of fiber, felt, feathers and beads. Students will learn how to make the wet felted mixed texture felt base petals, how to assemble using felting needles and go on to add feathers, beads and a brooch pin or attach to a handband or elastic for a fascinator hat!!. All base materials (wool, yarn, feathers, pin back and a small selection of beads) provided... students may bring a collection of beads (their own lampwork if they have them) just in case there is something extra you want to add. The initial part of this class is a wet felting intro and we go on to hand sew the mixed media components into the piece. Please bring your magnifying glasses and fine point scissors to class. NO KNITTING, CROCHETING during this process!! All materials and equipment supplied. Students Will Learn: how to make a wet-felted, mixed texture, base felt to cut the flower petals, how to assemble using felting needles and go on to add feathers, beads and a brooch pin or attach to a handband or elastic for a fascinator hat!!. Class Prerequisites(Students should know): pattern layout, cutting and hand sewing basics. This is NOT a needle felting or knitting class. Class ID: 1195 - Tapestry / Flat Felt Scarf Teacher: Tammy Deck Class Level: All Levels Class Type: Half Day Class Date: Saturday August 2nd Class Time: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Class Location: 1 This class introduces students to the fun, unusual process of wet felting by making a thin, soft, flat felt fabric. The project may be used as a neck scarf, table runner or wall piece. Wet felting by-passes spinning and knitting (it's true! there's no knitting involved) and capitalizes on the natural attributes of animal hair fibers to bond together in the formation of a "non-woven" fabric. Students Will Learn: how to lay out yarn and wool bits for the "tapestry" surface (or choose undecorated), layer the fiber (roving), wet it and work it into their finished piece. Students will work with hand-dyed, super soft, Targhee wool for the felt base (many hand-painted, color variations available) Class Prerequisites(Students should know): that this is a wet-felting technique and that no needles of any kind are used!! Materials Fee: $15.00    *Material fees are separate from class fees and paid to the instructor the day of the class.
