LATE BREAKING NEWS....Workshops are HERE!!............Vintage Handbag Exhitibt

Vintage Handbag Exhibit We are putting together an exhibit for the fair based upon a 1945 Coats & Clark handbag pattern. This is an open exhibition. If you would like to participate and get a copy of the pattern click here for details! Photo used with permission of Coats & Clark.

Welcome to "The Flock"! Thank you to our first members of "The Flock" friends of the fair! Our first individual member is Adrienne Rieck of Olympia Fields, IL, our first business member is The Dragonfly Yarn Shop out of Janesville, WI, our first teacher member is Debbie Moyes, and our first Guild is InterKnits Machine Knitters from Aurora, IL! We have a recognition list going now, for a complete list of members - please see "The Flock" page! (Pssst: We are working on a special surprise for our members!)

Workshops: Workshops are HERE!! We've put together a fantastic and impressive group of teachers to bring you the best, latest, and greatest in workshops - we even created a couple of new ones just for the fair! You will love our teachers, they are authors, artists, and experts in their respective fields. To read up on them, click here.

Workshops are GREAT value too! This year the fair is going to be too wonderful to do in one day (hint). We are extending the marketplace hours so you have time to shop after the workshops and your admission is included in your workshop fee. Treat yourself and learn something new, or refine something you already know.

Workshops make GREAT gifts! How can you give someone anything better than the gift of knowledge, the power to make something of lasting value with their own two hands, something they can do over and over? If you would like to give your workshop as a gift - please contact Carol and we'll see you get a certificate that you can print out and put into a card.

Do It In Public - It Feels GOOD! - I am going to start a page for photos! Thanks to all who met us at Panera in Fox River Grove! We've been invited to Do It In Public at the Concerts in the Park in McHenry in June! A staff member of the city of McHenry extends an invitation and the mayor has welcomed us - we'll let you know more soon!

Did you know? According to an article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal this past weekend (April 19) 53 MILLION Americans are now knitting? WooHoo!!

********************************************

Welcome to the 2nd annual Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair! We believe that a fair should delight all the senses. So we set out to do just that in 2007 and the response was wonderful. We are repeating that performance in 2008, with improvements!

We are dedicated to bringing you the best in:

  • Art Marketplace - supplies, finished art pieces, finished wearable art, folk art and more
  • Fiber & Folk Art Education - with workshops covering many disciplines
  • Fiber & Folk Inspiration - with a Fine Fiber & Folk Art Show
  • Introduce you to various fiber & folk arts through demonstrations
  • Family Entertainment - with Just for Kids, great food, musical entertainment and more

In fact, the goals of the fair spell out E-I-E-I-O (Empower, Inspire, Enrich, Introduce, Opportunity).

Planning is underway for this year's event. The dates are Friday July 18, Saturday July 19, and Sunday July 20. We will update the site as each piece falls into place.

We are DELIGHTED to announce the site of the fair is the beautiful campus of McHenry County College! They are delighted to have the fair, too, and support our mission of art education and the Fiber & Folk college scholarship. The fair now offers:

  • Indoor and Outdoor Marketplace
  • Indoor workshops
  • Several galleries and extended time for the art show (3 weeks)
  • Indoor and Outdoor Demonstrations
  • Indoor and Outdoor Community Garden (for eating, resting a bit, networking with other fiber artists/guilds, listening to music, etc)

Beautiful campus of MCC

We will be making announcements here as the fair progresses. Check back soon for information and opportunities to vend. In the meantime, enjoy our presentation and take a look at the magic of the 2007 fair!

New Vendors The application period for the 2008 fair is now closed. If we have any spaces left, we will post them in May, please check the site then. If you are interested in vending in 2009, please sign up for our vendor mailing list. (NOTE: If you are vending at the 2008 fair you are already on the list).

Volunteers! We are looking for volunteers to help the fair. If you are interested and have some time, please fill out our Volunteer Form so we know how to contact you.
